    Birth:
    A notation in "From Norway to North America: The Descendants in Canada and the United States of Olaf and Caroline Pederson" by Jean E. Peterson, 1981 indicates that the church burial record for Adolph Peterson lists his birth place. It indicates that the record is difficult to read but that the information appears to state that Adolph was born in Sorum, Norway.

    SERVICES HELD FOR ADOLPH PETERSON

    Had been a resident of North Dakota since 1868; came to Minnewaukan in 1919.

    Funeral services for Adolph Peterson, 76, long time resident of North Dakota, were held Saturday, May 31, in the Lutheran Church at Vang, North Dakota, with burial in the Vang cemetery. Mr. Peterson, who had been suffering from the flu, went to Vang to attend the funeral of an old friend; while there, his condition became worse and complications, along with heart trouble, caused his death Wednesday, May 28, at 7:00pm. Adolph, the son of Olaf and Carine Peterson was born at Sunum, Norway, on April 21, 1865.

    When two years (old), he moved with his family to America, the trip being made in a sailing vessel taking seven weeks. The family spent a year near Winnipeg and then moved to Pembina and later to Vang where Mr. Peterson grew to manhood.

    He came to Minnewaukan in 1919, where he engaged in farming and alter opened a blacksmith shop.

    He was married to Bertha Arneson April 22, 1895 at Vang, and to them were born 13 children, of which five preceded Mr. Peterson in death.

    The living children include Edwin, Laurence, and Charlie of Minnewaukan, North Dak., Hans of Fessenden, Ole of Florida, Leon of Minot, No. Dak., Mrs. Lenore Fix of Minot, No. Dak., Mrs. Lillie Hecker of Mandan.

    Other survivors include 5 brothers, four sisters, and 19 grandchildren. All of the latter are living. (!sic.)

    Ed Peterson, Implement Dealer & Civic Worker, Died Following Stroke

    Funeral for Edwin Peterson, 66, Minnewaukan, implement dealer, was held Wednesday at 1:00pm at St. Peter Lutheran Church in Minnewaukan. Burial was made at the Vang Cemetery near Vang, North Dakota.

    Mr. Peterson died Saturday at Memorial Hospital at Maddock where he had been a patient eleven days, after suffering a stroke. Rev. Roger Paulson officiated at the service here. Vernon Lysne sang two solos, accompanied by Mrs. V.A. Helberg. Active pallbearers were Palmer Sinness, Walter Lien, Gordon John, Valentine Wentz, Clinton Anderson, and Carol Goranson. Honorary bearers were Milson Ball, V.A. Helberg, Mason Helberg, Melvin Christianson, Leslie Strand, Pete Tofsrud, R. W. Goranson, Arvis Kloster, Albert Huffman, Dr. E. O. Yri, Don Jorgenson, and Jessie Rae.

    Mr. Peterson was born October 17, 1895 at Vang, son of Adolph and Bertha Peterson. He attended Vang public school.

    He was married on 24 September 1918 to the former Inga Olson at Langdon. They moved to Devil's Lake in 1933; later to Grand Forks; and to Minnewaukan in 1940. He operated a garage and repair shop here and in 1951 added implement business, selling and servicing the Oliver line.

    He was very active in civic endeavors, serving on the city council fifteen years; was president of the Minnewaukan Commercial Club four years, and served as chairman of the Minnewaukan Diamond Jubilee. He was a Republican precinct committeeman for the City of Minnewaukan, and was a member of St. Peter Lutheran Church.

    Survivors include his wife, his mother, three sons: Ralph of Oswego, Oregon, Harry of Lake Grove, Oregon, and Gordon of Ellensburg, Wash.; five daughters, Helen, Mrs. Harry Mahany of Minnewaukan; Eileen, Mrs. Kermit Knutson of Minneapolis; Lela, Mrs. Sidney Johnson of Kittitas, Wash., Marjorie, Mrs. John Morganthaler of Lake Grove, Oregon; and Bernice, Mrs. Donald Goff, of Minnewaukan; 23 grandchildren; five brothers, Ole, Laurence, Carl and Hans of Minnewaukan, and Leon of Polson, Mont.; and two sisters, Mrs. Adam (Lilly) Hecker and Mrs. Al (Lenore) Fix, both of Minot.

    Preceding him in death were his father, three sisters, two brothers, and two infant children. Burke Funeral Chapel of Devil's Lake was in charge of the arrangements.

    Funeral services of Olaf T. Peterson, 72, of Minnewaukan were conducted from the Presbyterian Church in Minnewaukan on July 18 with Rev. Fred Schaffer officiating. Interment was in Minnewaukan Cemetery.

    Mr. Peterson died Wednesday in the Maddock Memorial Hospital, where he had been a patient for some time.

    Active pallbearers were Milson Ball, Lyle Huffman, George Gantner, Gordon Johnson, George Schmid and Harry Cline. Honorary pallbearers were Albert Huffman, Ernest May, Les Helland, Glen Schmid, Joke Wold and Raymond Weed.

    Mrs. Oscar Hanson was the organist and accompanied Vernon Lysne, who sang, 'The Old Rugged Cross' and 'Safe In The Arms of Jesus'.

    Wheeler Funeral Home of Maddock was in charge of the funeral arrangements.

    Olaf Thorvold Peterson was born Aug. 27, 1897, a son of Adolph and Bertha Peterson near Vang, N. D. He attended public school there, then moved with his parents to Minnewaukan. He worked and resided in the Minnewaukan area the remainder of his life. He was a member of the Presbyterian Church of Minnewaukan.

    On May 7, 1935, he was married to Marnie Deede in Minnewaukan. Surviving are his wife; four sons, Roger of Baltimore, Harold of Milwaukee, Curtis and Larry, both at home; three daughters, Mrs. James (Sharon) Moyland of Baltimore, Mrs. George (Marlys) May of Wahpeton and Mrs. Larry (Shirley) Wettstein of Sauk Rapids, Minn.; two sisters, Mrs. All (Lenore) Fix and Mrs. Adam (Lily) Hecker, both of Minot; four brothers, Lawrence and Carl, both of Minnewaukan, Hans of Sheyenne and Leon of Polson, Mont.; and nine grandchildren.

    He was preceded in death by one sister and two brothers.

    OBITUARIES

    Hans G. Peterson

    Funeral services were held for Hans G. Peterson, 71, of Sheyenne on Wednesday, Sept. 20 at the Evans-Knott Funeral Home in New Rockford. He died Sunday morning in a Fargo hospital. He had been in poor health since suffering a stroke in December, 1977. Rev. Bruce Howard officiated at services and burial in Riverside Cemetery, Sheyenne.

    Music was provided by a quartet consisting of Charlie Stedman, Sherman Westby, Mayo Swenson and Otto Erickson. They were accompanied by Mrs. Alf Garnaas on the organ.

    Pallbearers were Vernon Hanson, Wayne Ostby, Norris Sylling, Jim Aardahl, Boyd Warren and Vic Stenberg. Honorary pallbearers were Bernard Mellum, Fred Mietz, Carl Ostby, Vic Carlson, Charlie Stedman, Ole Lee and Walt Burgstahler.

    The Evans-Knott Funeral Home of New Rockford was in charge of arrangements.

    Hans Gilbert Peterson was born August 22, 1907 at Vang, the son of Adolph and Bertha Thorvaldsdottir Peterson. In 1919 he moved with his parents to Minnewaukan where he attended grade school. He began work in the Bill Humphrey Barber Shop in Minnewaukan and was a barber until suffering his stroke. He was a barber in Silva, Manfred, Fessenden, Esmond and Sheyenne and also farmed in the Stony Lake area near Minnewaukan for several years prior to moving to Sheyenne in 1964. He married Emma Heupel May 29, 1938 at Linton.

    He was a member of the Sheyenne Wildlife Federation and the state barber association.

    Survivors include his wife; two sons, Richard of Minnewaukan and James of St. Paul, Minn.; two brothers, Lawrence and Charlie of Minnewaukan; two sisters, Mrs. Al (Lenore) Fix and Mrs. Adam (Lilly) Hecker of Minot; two grandchildren; and two step-grandchildren.

    He was preceded in death by his parents; and brothers, Willy, Edwin, Ole and Leon." (and sister Evelina.)
