There have been many discussions over the name of the wife of William Robert South. The marriage certificate and Family Bible page state that her name was ANNIE BURTON, not, Geerling. The obituary states only that her name was ANNA SOUTH, and that she was born at Des Moines, Iowa.

There is a possibility that she was raised by Geerling, but at her marriage she used her parents name, not her foster parents or her mother's parents.

Efforts to obtain birth records from Des Moines, Iowa have not been successful. At the time of her birth, none were kept.
