    Taken in 1919. The farm was owned by Louis and Elizabeth Wurm. It was the first farm south of Zurich on the west side of the road.

      Louis Wurm had married Elizabetha Rupp in 1890 in St. Peter's Lutheran Church. She was born in St. Jacob's, a daughter of Heinrich Rupp and Louisa Rau. She was working in the Huron Hotel (now Dominion) at that time owned by Mr. Hopple. Louis and family lived on the N.W. corner of Frederich and Rosalie Street. He worked out by the day and had a cider press. Their children - Leonard (1891 - 1959) Clearwater, B.C.; Arnold (1892 - 1962) Tampa, Florida; Alvin (1894 - 1968) Exeter, Ontario; Luella (1896 - 1989) Port Huron, Michigan; Herbert (1897 - 1891) Entwhistle, Alberta, were all born in town. By the time their youngest child came along in 1905, Louis had taken over his father's farm, Lot 19, Con.11, Hay at the south edge of Zurich. He moved his cider press across the road.

      Louis sold the farm in 1936 to Ferd Haberer. He lived in different places for a time, passing away in 1946. His last home had been a little house near the Catholic Church. It had been enlarged by Harry Bedard. His wife had predeceased him in 1922. They are buried in the Zurich Lutheran Cemetery.

      During Louis' day the farm south of the village had an excellent maple bush. A picture shows them boiling the sap in large kettles. After Louis sold the farm to Ferd Haberer he was quite upset when Ferd had the bush logged. One could not blame Ferd as a bush does go past its prime. Also the bush had no sentimental value to Ferd.
