- In the census of 1900, Ben South is living in ght home of Ellsworth "Doc" O'Bleness in Cass County, North Dakota. Ben's occupation was listed as servant. Ellsworth "Doc" O'Bleness' first wife was Inez South, daughter of James Lester South and Harriet Reed. Inez had died by 1900 and Ellsworth had remarried.
Ruth Ellsworth had stated that her uncle Ben never married. He moved up to Saskatchewan, Canada and lived with a cousin and family in or close to Melfort, Saskatchewan.
