4. | Benjamin Hallman was born on 18 Sep 1783 in Perkismen Township, Montgomery County, Pennsylvania (son of Benjamin Hallman and Anna Fronica Gottwaltz); died on 10 Sep 1869 in one mile east of Roseville, Ontario on his farm. Notes:
From Ezra E. Eby Book
Benjamin was born Sept. 18, 1783 in Montgomery Co., Pa where he followed farming. During the great financial depression of 1816-1827 many farmers failed financially and, in order to pay their debts, they sold their farms at great sacrifice. With whatever money they had left, they winded their way to Canada where land could be had cheap and thus made another attempt to gain a free home. As a rule, all these parties in a very few years were the posessors of valuable farms. Benjamin moved to Canada with his family in 1825.
They left Montgomery on May 6, and with two double horse teams and one single horse, crossed the Niagara River from Lewiston to Queenston on a large flat boat and winded their way up to Dundas and through the Beverly Swamp to Waterloo County arriving at Jacob Rosenburger's near Preston where they made a stay of 3 days. Then they moved on a farm 2 miles west of Waterloo. Here he resided until the spring of 1826 when he moved to N. Dumfries Twp. about 1 mile east of Roseville where he had purchased a most beautiful farm of about 200 acres, then nearly all forest. Here Banjamin died Sept. 10, 1879.
He was a member of the mennonite church and lived a strictly moral life. Principles of Christianity were always foremost in his dealings with his fellow men. His advice to his grandchildren was always good. "My earliest recollection of him was when he held us on his knee and instructed us to be a good boy. Three of his sons and a number of gradsons and great grand sons entered the ministry.
On Sept. 2, 1802 he married Elizabeth Dettweiller, daughter of Jacob and Margaret (Harley) Dettweiller.
Benjamin married Elizabeth Detweiler on 2 Sep 1802. 12. | Isaac Bergey was born about 1740 in Montgomery County, Pennsylvania (son of Hans (John) Bergey); died about 1791 in Montgomery County, Pennsylvania. Notes:
From Ezra Eby Book
Isaac Bergey, "the eldest son of old Hans Bergey, was born about the year 1740. He resided at first near Germantown, but after his marriage to Mary Hunsicker he moved to Montgomery County where quite a number of his co-religionists had already formed several small communities. Here he lived until about the year 1791 when he died. With his first wife he had three children, namely: III John, III Jacob, and Isaac. None of the descendants of the three sons reside in Canada. Their descendants are to be found in Montgomery and other counties of Pennsylvania and in some of the Western States. After the decease of his first wife he married to Veronica Hunsberger, with whom he had ten children.

(2005). "Hunsberger." Canadian Mennonite Encyclopedia Online. Mennonite Historical Society of Canada. Retrieved 23 Feb 2005
Hunsberger is a Mennonite family name, evidently Swiss in origin, found in the Franconia (PA) and Ontario districts of the Mennonite Church (MC). Bishop Henry Hunsberger (1768-1854) of the Blooming Glen, PA Mennonite congregation (MC) was assistant moderator of the Franconia Conference in 1847 by virtue of being second in seniority in years of service as a bishop. Because the moderator, Bishop John Hunsicker (d. 17 November 1847), sympathized with the vision and concerns of John H. Oberholtzer and sat with the Oberholtzer party in the Franconia meetinghouse on 7 October 1847 when the final secession of the Oberholtzer group occurred, Hunsberger served as moderator of the October 1847 session of the Franconia Conference. Jacob B. Hunsberger (1836-1919) served as preacher in the Coventry and Vincent congregations of the Franconia Conference from 1877 until his death over 41 years later. Christian R. Hunsberger (1823-1906) was a preacher in the Upper Skippack congregation (MC) of the Franconia Conference from 1879 until 1906. The Ontario Mennonite (MC) preachers included Abraham K. Hunsberger (1827-1889) of the Moyer congregation, and Noah Hunsberger, who was ordained preacher in 1903 and served in Sherkston and Waterloo. Bishop Ephraim Hunsberger (1814-1904) of the Eastern District Conference of the General Conference Mennonite Church (GCM) served as preacher in the Hereford congregation (GCM) beginning in 1849. In 1852 he moved to Wadsworth, Medina Co., Ohio, where he organized a congregation which he served for 50 years.
