      William and Elizabeth Reidt

In the 1940s William and Elizabeth (Shearer-French) Reidt lived here [Concession 11, Lot 21 south, Howick Township], on Sheldon "Shelley" Bricker's farm, with members of their blended families. William (C13-L22SW) worked for Shelley, buying and selling cattle.

Both William and Elizabeth had been married before. His children from his marriage to Christina Kreller (C12-L11S) were Edward, Adam, Walter and Irvin (Lakelet lot 1/2/3). Christine died in 1913, at age 20, giving birth to her fourth son. The boys were split up, taken by different relatives, and William became a teamer. With his prized team of black horses he drew logs, coal or anything else that it would pay to haul.

William Reidt remarried, to Elizabeth (Shearer) French; Elizabeth's children were Ruth and Madeline. William and Elizabeth had five children, Jack, Peter, Victor, Betty and William.

The family moved often, mostly to rented quarters near where his work was, or on a farm where he was employed.

William died in 1960 and Elizabeth in 1981.
