Death record of Peter Gulbrandsson
Peter died November 14, 1854 on the farm Velta, Gran parish and was buried December 3, 1854 in Gran parish. On the left side of the page, entry #123 states:
'Death date' November 14, 1854, 'date of burial' December 3, 1854, "husmann" (cotter/tenant farmer) Peter Gulbrandsson, age 53, whose residence at the time of death was on Velta "i ytter Alm. (gn)", cause of death was from drowning.
The 1865 Census lists a place called Velta, Allmenningsplass, in Gran parish. This may be the same Velta where Peter Gulbrandsson and his family were living and it seems to fit the description from his residence at the time of death "i ytter Alm. (gn) - (meaning - outer Allmenning in Gran) "allmenning" means 'common land' and Allmenningplass would be a common piece of land, (there is a village named Gran, in Gran parish, though we do not know if it was a village back then). It could be possible they lived on this piece of land called Velta, just outside of the village of Gran. Unfortunately there is no bygdebok written for Gran parish, but possibly someone who has some knowledge of the area may be able to explain more on this.
