Last Will and Testament of Thomas Edward HASTINGS

September 1889

This is the last will and testament of me Thomas Hastings of the Township of Markham Farmer

1st To my daughter Martha Mariah Francey I give my piano, sewing machine, her mother’s bureau and one half of the balance of my household furniture, beds and bedding less what furniture I shall give to Kate Algo

I also give to her my daughter Martha her heirs and assigns forever the east half of the east half of lot thirty one in the sixth concession of Markham aforesaid I also give to her my daughter Martha the use and occupation during her lifetime of the west half of the east half of lot thirty one in the sixth concession of the township of Markham aforesaid and I give her the said lands absolutely if she has a child or children surviving her but in the event of my daughter dieing without leaving issue I give the said west half of east half of said lot to my son Thomas Edward his heirs and assigns for ever

2nd To my son Thomas Edward Hastings I give and devise the east half of lot thirty in the sixth concession of the township of Markham aforesaid to have and to hold to him my son Thomas his heirs and assigns for ever

I also give to him my son all the balance of my personal estate he to pay all my debts funeral and testamentary expenses and to Catharine Algo as I hereafter provide for her

3 Catharine Algo has lived with me six years last May and to fulfil a bargain I made with her mother I give $28 a year for the time past and future that she has and does live with me besides her clothing which amount I order my son to pay with interest at four per cent computed from year to year and compounded the same as if deposited in the Post Office Saving Bank

I give to her the bedstead, bed and bedding complete she now occupies a bureau and her choice of one cow from my stock also six chairs

4 th To my brother Cunningham Hastings I give and bequeath five hundred dollars to be paid two hundred on the first day of November next, two hundred in one year from that date and one hundred in two years from the 1 st day of November my son Thomas Edward to pay $300 of the said amount in yearly payments and my daughter Martha to pay $200 in yearly payments

I nominate and appoint my son Thomas Edward and my daughter Martha Mariah executors to this my last will and testament hereby revoking all former wills be me made

In witness whereof I hereunto set my hand and affix my seal this seventh day of September A.D.1889

presence and in the presence of each other
