  • Notes
    • From the research of Earl Hastings

Samuel Thomas Hastings was raised on his father’s farm at Kroneau and Dinsmore, Saskatchewan. He was educated at Abermule rural school near Dinsmore.

He participated in the resettlement scheme of South Saskatchewan farmers to Meadow Lake and rode the boxcar with Elmer Mick when the latter transported his goods and chattels to the North.

He worked the winter of 1931-32 in a bush camp near Medstead, Saskatchewan prior to going north to Meadow Lake in 1933. He worked as a farm labourer on farms, in the bush and sawmills and cleared land at $6/acre.

In 1944 he took up residence in the town of Meadow Lake where he and his wife operated a cafe for a year before taking employment in the garage business and became a partsman for Ford and later a Chrysler dealership. He worked as an automotive partsman in Meadow Lake until 1966, when he moved to Nipawin, Saskatchewan to become parts manager with Verklan Motors and later for Peterson Datsun until his retirement in 1981. Tom enjoyed fishing and playing bridge. He sang in the United Church choir. While living in Meadow Lake he and the pastor were the only male voices in the choir. He is interred in Mabel Hill Cemetery, Nipawin, Saskatchewan.
