Ed Peterson, Implement Dealer & Civic Worker, Died Following Stroke
Funeral for Edwin Peterson, 66, Minnewaukan, implement dealer, was held Wednesday at 1:00pm at St. Peter Lutheran Church in Minnewaukan. Burial was made at the Vang Cemetery near Vang, North Dakota.
Mr. Peterson died Saturday at Memorial Hospital at Maddock where he had been a patient eleven days, after suffering a stroke. Rev. Roger Paulson officiated at the service here. Vernon Lysne sang two solos, accompanied by Mrs. V.A. Helberg. Active pallbearers were Palmer Sinness, Walter Lien, Gordon John, Valentine Wentz, Clinton Anderson, and Carol Goranson. Honorary bearers were Milson Ball, V.A. Helberg, Mason Helberg, Melvin Christianson, Leslie Strand, Pete Tofsrud, R. W. Goranson, Arvis Kloster, Albert Huffman, Dr. E. O. Yri, Don Jorgenson, and Jessie Rae.
Mr. Peterson was born October 17, 1895 at Vang, son of Adolph and Bertha Peterson. He attended Vang public school.
He was married on 24 September 1918 to the former Inga Olson at Langdon. They moved to Devil's Lake in 1933; later to Grand Forks; and to Minnewaukan in 1940. He operated a garage and repair shop here and in 1951 added implement business, selling and servicing the Oliver line.
He was very active in civic endeavors, serving on the city council fifteen years; was president of the Minnewaukan Commercial Club four years, and served as chairman of the Minnewaukan Diamond Jubilee. He was a Republican precinct committeeman for the City of Minnewaukan, and was a member of St. Peter Lutheran Church.
Survivors include his wife, his mother, three sons: Ralph of Oswego, Oregon, Harry of Lake Grove, Oregon, and Gordon of Ellensburg, Wash.; five daughters, Helen, Mrs. Harry Mahany of Minnewaukan; Eileen, Mrs. Kermit Knutson of Minneapolis; Lela, Mrs. Sidney Johnson of Kittitas, Wash., Marjorie, Mrs. John Morganthaler of Lake Grove, Oregon; and Bernice, Mrs. Donald Goff, of Minnewaukan; 23 grandchildren; five brothers, Ole, Laurence, Carl and Hans of Minnewaukan, and Leon of Polson, Mont.; and two sisters, Mrs. Adam (Lilly) Hecker and Mrs. Al (Lenore) Fix, both of Minot.
Preceding him in death were his father, three sisters, two brothers, and two infant children. Burke Funeral Chapel of Devil's Lake was in charge of the arrangements.
